Class,
It was great meeting you this evening and I look forward to discussing practical tips and tricks for getting things done. Here’s your homework for the week:
- Create a file folder called “System tools” on your desktop on your home computer. Find conf.exe, disk cleanup and disk defrag applications and send them to the desktop. [As Ms. Sarah Chavez correctly noted in her comment to a previous post, the Apple computer will have different names for these types of applications ... unless you are running Windows through bootcamp or VMware.] Once you find them, drop them into the folder you just created. Finally, copy that folder to your USB Memory Stick and bring it to class next week.
- Make sure you are using a firewall on your home computer. Zone Alarm offers a great one for free. Click here for the program.
- Find me on slideshare and view the About John presentation. Click here to view. It provides a template for your first project.
- Add a Comment to the post below and tell me “what went well tonight” and “what could be improved.” Open and honest communication will be rewarded. Do you trust me enough to tell the truth?
- Create a honey pot email account using google gmail.
- Send me a note with that address and your AI student email address. My mail is: class@projectez.com
- Set up accounts with the following services:
> Delicious
> Digg
> Linked in
> Slideshare
> Poll daddy
> Google blogger
> Many eyes (ibm alpha works) - Install an RSS reader like “WIZZ” on your browser. Next week, I’ll show you how to add a “feed” to your reader. Some browsers have the reader “built in.”
- Bookmark: wikipedia.org, snopes.com, and projectEZ.com
- Read the textbook assignment
- Study for the Quiz
- Do you have any digital images of yourself? Bring them to class on your USB memory stick. We’re all going to need a good full body shot with a white background and a head shot. Perhaps we can find a good plain background at the school and shoot them next Monday during a break if you don’t have any?
If you are having any problems completing these assignments, just add a comment to this post and explain the problem. I will help you. Or perhaps another student will help you. It’s doesn’t really matter … we are now all connected and we are responsible for each other.

I was wondering if you are planning to post the slides from the class?
and do you still want us to send you an “About Me” email? I did not see this mentioned anywhere other than in the Class Schedule handout.
Thanks

@Maria,
No, there is no need to send me an About Me email. That is an adjustment we made during the class since some of our students don’t yet have an AI email … I collected your information using the PollDaddy questionnaire. So that is done and I’ll share the results with you next week.
I’m a bit torn about posting the slides. By the end of this session, there will be a great deal of intellectual capital in those slides and I do not want to share it with the general public.
I think that I’ll just print them out as handouts in our class each week.

@Luis,
Install Firefox browser, if you haven’t already. Just google “firefox” and find it. Once installed, select the Menu Option: Tools \ Add ons and select “browse all add-ons.”
There are hundreds of add-ons for Firefox. Some are great … others are worthless. For now, I just want you to install an RSS reader. Type “WIZZ” in the search field at the top of the page and then follow the instructions to add it to your Firefox browser.
